A living soil
landscape studio.
We design landscapes from the ground up - prioritising soil health and biodiversity. We work with residential homes, families, schools and community groups across the Central Coast, Sydney and Newcastle region.

(about us)
Feeding bugs, sheltering wild life, nourishing people.
Justin is a landscape architect with experience working across residential landscape design, regeneration projects and community gardens.
Our name, Detritivores (Dee-try-teh-vores) , comes from the small creatures in our soils - worms, beetles, millipedes, springtails - quiet warriors breaking down the world so it can begin again.

Our Services

Landscape Design & Planting
Every landscape has a story in its soil.
We offer the full scope of landscape design and planting services built around the specific qualities and conditions of your site, to ensure what grows is right for your environment, and for you.
Compost Systems
Composting is the heart of landscape renewal, where kitchen and garden waste become fertility. We supply and install complete systems, from off the shelf worm farms to custom-built bays and bioreactors, closing the loop at every scale.

Education & Workshops
The knowledge that shapes our designs belongs to everyone. We run hands-on workshops in soil-making, compost care and regenerative gardening, for community groups, schools and families.

Our Collaborators
Soil
We look before we act; pH, texture class, bacteria/fungi estimations, with full spectrum mineral testing available. The clearer the picture, the more tailored the design.
Detritivores
Locally cultured detritivores and decomposers transform the soil environment, ensuring nutrient bioavailability to plants. We work with them in both remediation strategies and compost systems.
Plants
We design with locally indigenous, edible and medicinal plants, chosen specifically for you and your site, so that you feel at home with your floral community.
Community
Our work is embedded in the community, sourcing locally whenever we can, and giving back through education and knowledge sharing.
